hung-up-on-a-dream replied to your chat: Me: Happy Birthday Brian Jones! Random person…
Wasn’t he like syd Barrett. Brian found the band And it continued when he was no longer a member except it was that Brian died and and the most talent whereas syd left and was equally as talented?????
A bit yes. He is an overlooked member of the band and your reply made me a bit more curious about his role in the band and I decided to do some googling. As much as I love the Stones, I don’t know too much about them *blushes*
Let me Cliffnote it for you guys: Brian Jones moved to London in the early 60s and was in a few bands with the likes of Paul Jones of Manfred Mann fame and Jack Bruce well known for his work in Cream. He wanted to start a new band and put an advert in the newspaper, Ian “Stu” Stewart, Mick Jagger, and Keith Richards joined. Brian Jones came up with the band name, the Rolling Stones. And the rest is history.
Now for his role in the band. He was a major contributor to the band’s early work and played many instruments. Once the Stones and Andrew Loog Oldham started working together, Brian Jones got more estranged from the band, being sort of a loner. Oldham believed that songwriting by band members was important and I guess Brian Jones felt like his importance was being minimised. He was living in the shadow of Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. Brian Jones (and everyone else in the band) turned to drugs. Jones’s health was not A1 and he got into a lot of legal trouble. He died on 3 July 1969, a month before Woodstock.
